Orgave is made from the desert Blue Agave plant, which is also used in making tequila. Our Raw Orgave is full-flavored – it is 42% sweeter than sucrose but has fewer calories and a very low Glycemic Index so that it is absorbed slowly by the body.

Although Blue Agave has a history of being used as a sweet drink by the ancient Mexican Indians, it wasn’t until the mid-1990s that its nectar was experimented with and developed into a commercially manufactured sweetener. Blue Agave sweetener is liquid, similar to honey but less viscous, and its taste is very mild, slightly caramel-like, with a delicate floral aroma. It’s much sweeter than refined sugar, so when cooking, use 3/4 cup for every cup of sugar called for in a recipe.

Our Raw Blue Agave sweetener is low on the Glycemic Index (ranging from 19 to 39) due to its high fructose-to-glucose ratio, which means it does not cause insulin levels to spike and crash. Diabetics and people with hypoglycemia can use Orgave nectar in moderation as a great substitute for sugar or artificial sweeteners in their diets.

Use it in our Tea Vue exquisite loose leaf teas, baked products, cereals, fruit concentrates, condiments, desserts, candies, smoothies, fruit spreads, yogurts, granola bars, soft cookies, and other beverages. When baking, replace one cup sugar with 3/4 cup agave. Reduce recipe liquids 1/3 and oven temperature 25 degrees.
